Clearance Christmas goodies for my dolls! Yay!

I did not want to do the "After Christmas" blog. Christmas was a wash, and my whole thing like "moving on." I did want to do a post as a final Fare Thee Well and Good Riddance to 2016 post. I am so glad this year is almost over, words do not express. So I won't bother trying to, and will get on with my post.

I took an unexpected trip to the Dollar store this morning and ended up hauling back some clearance Christmas items, which I really did not expect to do. Halloween was a feast for me, but Christmas I am usually "eh" with, so I really wasn't looking to get anything. But then I saw the 4 foot white tree and it was on. I don't have a tree for my dolls. I love having a tree for the AG's, and for some reason in my mind a 4 foot tree really wasn't too big for 18" dolls. (Though it kind of is. That's okay!) The only ornaments we immediately found were the very non traditional colors. I was not convinced I would actually enjoy them, so I went running to the other aisle that had Christmas stuff, and found some red and green ornaments. Thankfully I got talked back from the edge and bought the original ornaments I found. They are so perfect for my dolls and I really do not want to have any traditional Christmas any ways at this point, so I am not sure what I was thinking that moment when I picked p the red and green. I was so pleased with my purchase that I ended up going back in and grabbed the only other package of the same colors, a package of fake snow, and these 2 absolutely adorable tins to put my ornaments in. I might need another one - I got 2. We'll see. I tried not to over buy. For once. Here's what I got:

The little poinsettia thing I grabbed for a potential AG doll table center piece. My plan is to hit up Hobby Lobby next time I am in town and see what goodies I can find. I am actually thinking about getting clear lights for this tree, and its strange as I am normally team Multi colored lights. Hopefully I can find some with the white wires, but if not, I'll just get some next year. I would love to find some candy land themed ornaments left in the clearance items, but we'll see. :D

My Pullip is here!

I've been trying to get myself to post *something* on here for the past several weeks, and was inspired by nothing that was going on. Not like there weren't things to blog about. It just wasn't anything that sparked my interest enough to sit down and actually do it.

Here's one thing: My Pullip MIO came the other day. I suddenly just decided to get one, and lucky for me they had the natural color in stock (I would have gotten the pale skin if they had had that, but I as happy to settle with the natural.) I paid for her on a Thursday and never got the shipping notice! I agonized all day Friday waiting for the shipping notice, and none ever came. So imagine my surprise when she arrived on Saturday! :D

She's amazing. I absolutely love her. I don't have her a wig yet, but I will try Draven's wig on her when  dig it out. Its a long bangless wavy purple and black Can Can wig. She might keep it. (Truthfully, it doesn't entirely fit Draven. I'd prefer a dark brown in the same style.) Her eye chips have been painted a black glitter, which I am thrilled with! Her face will be painted as soon as the weather behaves and gives me something that is warmer than 20 degrees with 80+ % humidity (which I am afraid won't be happening any time soon. We had a warm day on Saturday and I was all excited to get her face done. I watched until the humidity dropped to a good level and right as I was thinking it was time to go spray her down, that's when the down pour started and continued late into the night.)

My plans for her have changed. Of course. Once again, my pre-planning didn't work. I wanted to do an Alice Madness Returns inspired doll. The doll I have right now is not that doll. It's probably a good thing I didn't have the opportunity to paint her as quickly as I wanted to, as I would have ended up changing it. I don't have a name for her yet, but it seems as if my Pullip is a sweet, quiet goth who wears medieval style dresses, victorian mourning dresses, and some EGL in there for good measure. The dress I started for her needs more work. I'll do a separate post for that later though.

Twas the Wednesday before Thanksgiving....

And chaos is once again making its presence known. Lol. But really, what's a holiday without chaos? What a strange thought....

We got one of those handy (and HUGE) turkey roasters that you plug in. Whatever the correct name for them. An electric roaster. And we ended up with a roast for dinner (which I was not planning on) tonight to try it out. I got it all browned and cut up carrots, potatoes, celery, onion and garlic, and it should hopefully be done in time for dinner. We haven't had roast in awhile. It's not my favorite thing to eat. It's good, just usually too heavy and rich for me to thoroughly enjoy. Which is fine to have every once in awhile.

My plan was to do all the baking/desserts today. I will be making an Italian Creme Cake, a peanut butter pie (the only thing you cook there is the graham cracker crust) and some pumpkin chocolate chip bars with no sugar or dairy for me (YUM YUM YUM.) I was all set to get the cake going before lunch, but the roast dinner prep took up that time. I just finished my lunch, so I will hold off on baking and try and get the Etsy Lolita dress finished so I can get it out in the mail today.

Since we forgot (foiled again! This writing grocery lists on the fly on our way to town has got to stop!!) to get cat food, more garlic, and something else that I don't remember at the moment, we will have to go by Wal-Mart. I will try and get everything finished up by 3 that needs to be done before I mail, so baking might be an after dinner affair.

On another note, I am working on getting a Mary Ellen holiday ensemble together to list maybe on eBay. We'll see. I'm really excited about it. It's a new pattern I have been working on. :D The dress is mostly finished. I really want to have it ready to list by tomorrow. I will be posting pictures of it on here as soon as I get it finished!

My weekend didn't go as planned but OMG!!! Abbey and Duece!!!!

Course not. The best laid plans of mice and men and all that. I have not watched a single movie yet. We ended up doing a HUGE overhaul on the attic room once we got the back room organized (organized for a storage room) and could clear out some stuff that was just in the way. So instead of going to the laundromat which is our normal Friday evening activity, we went instead on Saturday afternoon. I had to run to the PO in the morning, came back and worked on some clay orders (YAY!!!) went to the laundromat ran some other errands, came home, fixed dinner and then basically just lazed for awhile. Last night was spent spending several hours collectively (a sad confession) trying to download the Trend Micro we got last year since the subscription of our present protection would have been up today.  (Yay for last minute.) What no one realized was the doofus that sold us that Trend Micro had given us the version for MAC, not pc. Thus the problem.

So, off we went to pick up a new Trend Micro after lunch, and ran into Wal-Mart to grab a space heater since it is freaking cold up here in this sad uninsulated attic. (Ugly and cold. But now much more spacious.) I hope it works okay since the electric is also old, so here's so hoping to at least cutting the chill! All this is fantastic, but the icing on the cake of my weekend? WELCOME TO MONSTER HIGH DUECE AND ABBY! And Moanica as well. (Although she isn't for me.) I couldn't believe my eyes! I was just kind of picking at the dolls, seeing if the Gloom Beach Frankie I have my eye on was still there (which she was) when I saw her.....ABBEY! I let out a yell, and attacked the aisle snatching up the dolls and yelling their names with a lot more gusto than I intended. There was a grandmother standing there looking at me like "You have got to be kidding me...." Which is rather hilarious. I suppose I did make a wee bit of a scene. Totally justified though! And its not like I hurt any kids in the process. :P

I have been desperate to find Duece, and he just never has shown up! I had zero hope to ever finding Moanica as she is pretty rare. Both are sold out at Wal-Mart.com. I had also forgotten that there even was an Abbey in this line. I sort of recall seeing a pic of her maybe, but I can't completely pull it from the upstairs cobwebs. Now we have an Abbey for the Abbey themed room of our shelf house! I am super excited!

On the way home we stopped by the dollar store. I needed to pick up some super cheap tooth brushes for some detailing on my clay pieces, and I also hoarded the clearance Halloween stuff. Some of that creepy cloth (it has different names) in both cream and black, 2 cardboard pumpkin boxes and one coffin that I have zero idea what I will do with, 2 plastic cauldrons that I grabbed on a whim to maybe store my thread in (I just got the spools all separated after they were dumped aimlessly in a box in the re-do ruckus. They're just waiting to be put into color sorted bags and organized. Hope this works. It'll at least be fun.) I also got a pair of socks to cut down for Max (my BJD.) Oh yeah, and one string of neon green and one of purple. Happy, happy little stash to come away with!

Cleo's vanity came last night and in the drama of the Mac Trend Micro ordeal, it kind of got overlooked. I'll take a good look at it later, but I can tell you, it is a gorgeous set, totally worth the money.

Rambling blog of much ado about nothing

Yes, I am blogging instead of doing what I need to be doing - the dishes, picking up the room or finish making the paper poppies I volunteered to help with, but I just got back from a very long string of errands and sitting on my ass feels nice. I'm freaking excited though - our MH order came in at Wal-Mart!!! I can't wait to open the playsets and the beautiful WtMH Lagoona. I grabbed Cleo's vanity set for a Best Offer of $19 off of eBay. It appears to be moving at a snail's pace. and being that tomorrow is Veteran's Day, it won't get here tomorrow after all. Dang! I can't wait for it to get here. It is such a neat set. I just love the MH playsets. :D

At Hobby Lobby there was a little spattering of Halloween stuff left at 80% off. Yay! We grabbed a few things, which included this awesome mummy coffee cup. Which I will be using tomorrow morning. I'll get a picture of everything if I remember to and add to this blog later. They had these neat little metal buckets with lids on them for $0.40 which I passed on due to the scratches they seemed to all have. I'm wondering now if I should have gotten them any ways....I have no idea what I would have done with them, but I would have found something for them.

At Joann's I got some fabric for the AG 1950's Christmas dress I have in the works, and some more coat fabric. As well as the lavender cotton and lace for the Lolita dress I sold on Etsy.

We also went by the movie rental place and got 3 movies for the weekend. I am vegging all weekend I swear. Beyond the important stuff such as meals and dishes - nothing. Nada. I am going to be lazy as all hell, so movies will be a nice distraction.

Okay, that should wrap up this pointless post! I plan to do more MH doll blog reviews. I have the pics for several, just haven't done them yet. Now, off to the dishes!

Ginger's 1950's Skirt and Tee

I decided to finish up Ginger's tee shirt and skirt set. Finishing up the tee took me longer than I had expected, but I got it finished up around lunch time. I worked on her circle skirt next. After I got it together, I decided to look for some inspiration pics of something to applique on the skirt, a la poodle skirts. I found a lot of cute ideas looking at actual patterns from the '50's. Along with the iconic poodle, I saw cats, flowers, fish, donkeys, dogs (other than poodles,) and even doves. Several of them, complete with a birdcage! The latter was on an adult woman's skirt, but I thought "why not?" I attempted to draw out a dove shape that resembled what I saw on the real skirt and cut one out of white felt to sew on Ginger's skirt. I lined it with tiny stitches in a tannish gold around the edge of the bird. I still need to add the eye. Besides that and the snaps, her outfit is done. And in a bad, bad need of a crinoline, slip, or something of that nature! Here's some unexciting pics of her snapped quickly outside.

Please excuse Ginger's hair. I need to glue her wig on and give it a nice brushing. In her hair is the matching scarf for her to wear either around her neck or in her hair. Right now it is simply pulling her hair back.

I really enjoyed making the circle skirt. It's simple and fairly quick, though hemming it around the bottom edge is a pain as its so curved. I plan to make her many more in this style with various appliques! I'd love to maker her one with cherries, so I will keep an eye out for the right fabric.

I  have also started on a 1950's style of coat. Right now it is getting the best of me, but I'll get it. At one point it will have to get cold here, and having a coat for Ginger will be really nice. Next in line for her is a nice dress. She's kind of my focus right now, which is fun!

Plans for Christmas 2016

I really didn't want to even think about Christmas this year. Last one was a miserable time, having just lost my special kitty before the holiday craze, so it all went down in a funk. We got rid of everything Christmas with relish over the Summer. Not that we had much to begin with. My 4 foot silver tree which I have treasured since 2008 (it made the most amazing Halloween tree) didn't escape the mold rampage that many things suffered from being stored in the garage, and out it went as well. I was not particularly happy about that, but not as upset as I thought I would be. I guess it had been through a lot and maybe just needed to leave my life.

We had thought about maybe doing a goth themed tree this year, which we have actually never done. I don't think its something that the household would agree on, but since it'll just be up here, I think we're going to do it! The theme is Gothic Victorian. I want to do similar things in smaller sizes for my AG dolls. (Damn American Girl dolls - they always put me in the mood for Christmas!)

I have the Gothmas Tree master plan list and will see what I can bring home from Joann's today with my 25% off total purchase.

Here's some inspiration pics of some of the things we are planning on making:

This is one of the most beautiful ornaments I have ever seen. The challenge will be to find the right kind of roses. The plan is to have black with silver/white and red with black. Pretty, pretty!

This is a crocheted snowflake in BLACK. How cool is that? The plan is to do them in black or silver and cover them with glitter and then I will bead them with red, clear and/or silver.

I will be making some felt bats out of glitter black fabric and we will get some glitter silver icicles and paint blood on them. I have no idea yet what we will have for the tree topper. We'll be getting a white tree. I think the color/theme we have going on would look the best with white.

I'd also like to get a little black tree for the dolls this year, but that is a whole other blog post.

A tale of rick rack - AG Cecile's Red Dress from her paperdolls....

I got a custom order via Etsy for Cecile's red dress from her paperdolls as well as MG's Polka Dot dress. I can talk about the polka dot in a separate blog. For some reason I think I might have already blogged it....

Cecile's dress - its a handful. I'm titling this blog post 'a tale of rick rack' but maybe I should title it 'a tale of pointy tips and how to get them to hang right.' This dress was honestly, the trickiest AG dress I can remember to date working out a pattern for. The bodice itself is easy, and the skirt is straigh forward. It's the peplum and the sleeves that led to those "AGH!" moments.

You can see on the illustration how Cecile's hand covers the front of the peplum, so I tried to fill in the blanks as well as I could, mimicking the sleeves form. You can also see how there is no break in the rick rack trim going from bodice to peplum. It is an illustration, yes, and those things can be tinkered with to make the sewing actually work, but in this instance it did need to be done as shown here due to the difficulty it would cause to try and line it up perfectly after cutting the rick rack into 2, not to mention creating unnecessary bulk.

The peplum was a fun challenge, getting the shape right and also getting the hang right. I wasn't sure if it needed a light gather, but pretty quickly decided that would look very wrong. The sleeves I had to re-do more than once as my first attempts were gathered just enough to make them look a little bit like bird wings. Lol. That didn't work. So, I took out some of the gather, shortened the layers a little as well. That worked really well.

My beautiful Luna is modeling the pictures of my dress here. I wish I had taken the time to get good pics of it, but as soon as I finished the dress I wanted to get it out to the PO immediately. I will make another one for my own dolls to fight over. (Luna has decided she needs to wear 1850's dresses, Henrietta is screaming it should be hers, and I will at one point be getting a MG in a trade, which neither girl presently realizes. :P)

Gnocchi and rosemary lemon chicken cream sauce recipe

I was suddenly overcome yesterday mid morning with this desire to have gnocchi. I have had it once before - it was the prepackaged stuff you get at the grocery store. I don't remember the brand. I have no idea why this of all things was the thing I was craving, but man, I had to have some. After some quick googling, I found a vegan recipe  (I don't do eggs. Not even in baking if I can help it.) which had some good reviews (you can never be sure sometimes with healthy alternatives), so gnocchi was a go!

I baked 6 potatoes in the oven for 2 hours and did manage to overcook them just a little. That's actually how I like my baked potatoes - the skin nice and crunchy and just a little bit hard. I should have taken them out about 30 minutes before I did for this purpose, so I will remember that for next time. The recipe said to let them sit for 5 minutes, cut them in half, grab a kitchen towel and scoop out the soft insides using the towel to prevent hand burn from handling a hot potato. I didn't do that. I just left them and went on my merry way. (I spent a little time in the afternoon working on my Volks SD10's clown suit. That's for another post.) About 2 hours later I came back to the kitchen to scoop out the potato guts and start assembling my gnocchi. (There is a reason they say to do it that quickly - after this long, the potato was kind of hard. *ahem, over baked, ahem*)

You mash the potato guts as fine as you can get them, and add salt to season. You then add in half cup increments up to 3 cups of flour. (The last 1/2 cup might not be necessary.) You are supposed to cut the flour in using a sharp spatula. The closest I had to work with was an old bent metal spatula, which worked fine turned on its side. I had no idea what I was doing. And the only problem I had with the recipe was it failed to tell me what the texture is supposed to be like when you have added the appropriate amount of flour. What is it supposed to feel like? I stopped at 2 1/2 cups because whole wheat flour is heavy and I didn't want to make it like concrete by adding any more. Let it rest wrapped in plastic, and you are good to go!

Once it has rested, you cut it into sections which you then roll out to 1 inch logs, cut into 1 inch pieces, and cook in boiling salted water for 2-3 minutes, or until they float. (I about made a corpse joke but this is food I am talking about here.)

The recipe for the sauce I planned to make called for chicken, fresh rosemary (I only had dried) lemon juice, onion, chicken broth and garlic. Simple. I made sure to set out the chicken breasts which were the frozen variety in advance (in a plastic zip bag in a bowl of water. Poultry must remain cold at all stages of thawing to prevent bacteria growth and spoilage.) You melt butter in a pan, cube the thawed chicken, season it, and cook it. It cooks fast. Here's the only problem with the recipe - it says to cook the onions AFTER you have cooked the chicken, and toasted the gnocchi (which didn't work, by the way) which is not a good idea. Onions take too long to cook for that. Next time I will add them before I cook the chicken and keep them cooking while the chicken cooks.

We had spinach in ours instead of the recommended peas. And instead of heavy cream, a healthy alternative in 1/3 cup of plain yogurt to about a 1/2 unsweetened almond milk works just fine. The almond milk is too sweet on its own, the yogurt is too tangy on its own. They off set each other very well. This is also how you make a buttermilk substitute, with an adjusted ratio.) So this will definitely give it a different flavor than heavy cream. I had half a container of firm tofu left over, so in the pan it went too. (To ensure the tofu has a good flavor, season it first. Add salt, onion powder, garlic, and whatever other seasonings you plan to use in your dish, mash it up real good using your fingers, and then add it to the pan. Otherwise it becomes a bland flavorless component that slowly sucks the flavor from everything else in degrees.) At the very end, add some finely grated (or chopped) mozzarella. Oh, and be sure to toss the gnocchi in the sauce before serving. Yum.

The Recipe

Sauce:

3 chicken breasts cubed and seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic\
Half cup diced onion
1 can chicken broth
1-2 T dried rosemary (to taste)
2-3 T lemon juice (or juice of one lemon and its zests)
Half package of seasoned tofu
2 cups thinly sliced spinach
1/3 cup plain yogurt mixed with half cup almond milk
Garlic, salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup mozzarella

Gnocchi:

6 baked potatoes
Salt to season
2-3 cups flour

Waiting, waiting for that shipping notice! Iplehouse JID

So, I went and put an Iplehouse JID on layaway a few weeks back. He was kind of a surprise buy. You know how that can happen? I hadn't payed a great amount of attention to these dolls in the past, but I suddenly got seized with the desire to get one. So, I did the money calculations we all do when considering buying a new doll, the numbers worked, and WS Owen was put on layaway! I paid him off in full 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I cannot wait for him to arrive. It seems like FOREVER since I paid him off, but I know it hasn't been. :P I'm so impatient, my coping with the wait is total denial that I have him to "OMG, how am I gonna survive until he is HOOOOOOME!" The drama, the drama.

I have no idea really what I am going to do with him. I fell in love with this picture of Owen:

I found this while looking for inspiration pics of men's mori clothing to make for my Dollshe Hound. I ended up ordering the doll a few weeks later. I am thinking I might dress him in a similar style, but I know not to settle on anything until he is here. Which *hopefully* will be soon. IH has been shipping pretty quickly lately, so I am crossing my fingers I will be one of the lucky people who gets their dolls within 2-3 weeks.

Kool Aid, my epic hair dye fail

I may have mentioned it on my blog - I don't know for sure, but any one who talks me has heard more than once about my really frustrating allergy that I developed towards hair dye. I think I have already mentioned it, but I will say it again because saying it has some sort of venting power. (Like if I say it loud enough, with enough feeling, enough times, the hair gods will hear me, be moved with pity, and will right this egregious wrong.) It also explains my stubborn determination with trying kool -aid to color my hair.

Now, it works. With mixed results for various people, depending on natural (or starting point) hair color. It also depends on how much and what colors of kool aid you try. In theory, the lighter your hair color is, the better kool aid takes to it. In theory. My hair is in the dish water blonde category, so *in theory,* mine should take to it much easier than say, someone with dark hair. I have tried 4 different colors, with 4 different methods. And here are my (unfortunately) photo less results. (I wish I had pics of it all, but never took the time to really try except once to capture any of the colors.)

First off, I went with grape. (Come to find out, that is a harder color to actually have success with. Should have known I was doomed for failure from the start.) I first tried the "make a paste and mix with conditioner" method. I let it sit for over 4 hours. I couldn't take any more of the smell after that much time, so I was pretty much like "the hell with this" and rinsed it out with conditioner only, per instructions. (Later I found some people advised only rinsing initially with water. I did that later....)

Result: nothing. Maybe a slight, slight frost look that managed to mellow out the grays (yep, I got them) and that was about it.

Next attempt landed me with choosing - yet again - a very hard color to get results with. Orange. (I have a fantasy of having orange and black hair. More achievable than my ultimate fantasy of black and white/silver.) This time I boiled some water, made a paste and brushed it via a tooth brush on to my hair. I let it set the recommended 45 minutes. Then I heat set it with a blow dryer, and washed it with conditioner. (No, its not color safe conditioner.)

The result:
A little color stayed, albeit, predominantly on my scalp. But, it did give a bit of orangey tones to the blonder hairs that have an orangey tone more naturally. It was more visible in he sunlight. This washed out when I did actually wash my hair with shampoo.

Attempt number 3. I went with Black Cherry. Surely if success was to be had, it would be with red. After all, people have had it last for MONTHS merely dip dyeing their hair! So, I did followed the instructions which said to bring water to a boil, add the kool aid, boil for one minute, then soak for 20-30 minutes. I did have a slight hiccup in my prep time, but I figured I'd go ahead with it. So, after soaking my head in a large plastic bowl, bent over on my knees, and the allotted time had passed, I was extremely excited. The color of the liquid was beautifully bloody, and I had visions of having this deep blood red hair. I also heat set it without washing. And then I looked in the mirror.

The result:
Barely a thing. I did not wash my hair out that night, figuring I would leave it until morning. I ended up leaving it longer as I wanted to keep that slight burgundy frosted look. As soon as I washed it, it was all gone. (Save again, the stubborn residue on my scalp. I don't have a shower which would make it much easier to wash out than just having a bath tub.)

Final time - the vinegar method! I went with blue. (2 cups water, 1-2 T vinegar) This time I boiled the water, then added the powder and boiled for the suggested 10 minutes. I let it barely cool before dunking my head, and stayed put in that uncomfortable position (which would have been so worth it....) for 35 minutes. Once that was done, I heat set it once again, and left it in my hair to be taken care of in the morning. This was my best attempt.

Result:
It ended up not being that gorgeous shade of blue, but instead turned almost greenish teal-ish. (Not unusual.) It did not color my hair over all, but just sort of gave a sheen to it. Some strands had zero color. Some were teal, and some a frosty silver blue. When I did wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner like normal, most of it washed out. A little color lingers, which you might only be able to see in certain lighting.

I have definitely given up on kool aid at this point. People might say I did this or that wrong and that's why it didn't work for me. There are quite a few different tutorials on how to do it (believe me, I have spent way too much time researching this), and I tried 4 different methods. So I think at this point, I will throw in the kool aid towel. If it works for you, good for you. (grumble, lol)

I will take my impervious- to-kool-aid-hair and just go the henna & indigo route. I really only want black hair any ways. The reasons I have not done it yet have been the concerns over the messiness, from application to washing it out, as well as where to buy it to begin with.

Gareth Pugh in BJD form

I thought I'd already blogged this. I guess it fell into the "meant to do long enough it became already done in my mind" category. So, here goes!

I found a WTC post on DoA for a Gareth Pugh outfit. I had seen this outfit before - in fact, it is the same one someone is planning to have made for their recently ordered Ringdoll. She offered me the project for when her doll came in. Sadly, I do not have the right doll size for it at this very moment, and so I feel that it would require too much adjusting to achieve the right fit. (I have plans to right this horrible wrong, though, as I have found a doll I want....) I always get very disappointed when I am unable to sew an outfit that is really inspiring for me, so, when I saw a WTC for that same outfit I was already so in love with, I had to message the person.  Then I proceeded to go through the (self inflicted) agony thinking it must have already been snatched up when I didn't hear back from her within a few hours. (Sheesh, self, patience!) In the end, I got the project. (No, no one else got there first. My devastation was overblown as per usual.) The doll this project is intended for is an IoS 70cm with measurements pretty similar to my Dollshe Hound.

I am sewing the tunic part in pleather, with the skirt in gauze. The outfit also includes some black knit tights. Or maybe leggings would be the more appropriate term. I love the affect of the crisp pleather with the soft flowing gauze.

This outfit is just gorgeous. I love the detailed piecing of the bodice, and sleeves. Here is the inspiration pic:

I really enjoyed figuring out the pattern for this. It was sort of like building a puzzle. Here's the outfit on my Hound. (Please forgive the less than perfect pics.)

Ambrose looks just.....amazing in this. I have dreamed for so long about having a Dollshe, and here is my very own Hound. In something I made for him that I love THIS much!!! It just makes me so happy. I'm so proud of this guy. (Yep, he still needs a face up. I just need to decide first on what I want to do with him!)

Work has since commenced on my actual commission piece. The above you see on Ambrose is pretty much my test run, so the outfit my buyer will get will be much more perfect. (I did a quick partial bodice in cotton, and just went onto the pleather. Its one of those outfits that I felt I needed the actual fabric to see how the pattern was coming together. Sometimes this is for fabric weight, sometimes it is just to get the right aesthetic idea, and since cotton is so different than pleather, it didn't work as comfortably for me.) The gauze skirt on her's is much fuller and a little longer, which is definitely an improvement. I'm going to get some more gauze and re-make one for my doll.

The  IoS doll I am sewing for has bigger shoulder and chest measurements, which is actually - normally - a very quick adjustment. Somehow I fumbled that one, and made a dumb mistake that I kind of knew at the time was a mistake, but I did it any way. I would have already had it done by now. *face palm* As it stands, I have fixed my mistake, which was simple since I knew darn well what I had done. I should have it completed *hopefully* at the end of the week. So excited to get this to her gorgeous boy! :D

Now that I have seen one outfit designed by Gareth Pugh on my Hound, I think I will pursue recreating some more for my boy on down the road! He has some seriously amazing outfits. I love the post apocolpytic, cyber, vampire, goth sort of look.

Asylum Chic and Halloween Industrial...for the mice??? *Picture heavy*

Yep! For the Cheese mice. :) Instead of working on the Dark Mori outfit I intend to make for my Hound for the Project Journal Round on DoA (my plans, my plans, I never stick to them) I got my critters out yesterday, wanting to come up with some sort of idea that I like, will continue to like, and that will give them each a defined style and presence. I have tried different things for them - more like have come up with different plans for them, but nothing really has ever stuck. Yesterday after doing some sketching that went nowhere, an idea clicked in my head.

I decided to start with Blueberry. I had already made some simple little black twill pants back several months ago. So for this guy, all he needed to have was a shirt. I decided to try and make the mummy, asylum chic style of shirt (no, this isn't original) similar to one I started making for SD size (and consequently, have never finished in the last couple of year - yikes.) I thought it would be pretty simple, and while it was, I had no idea it would take me as long as it did. O.o

Basic pieces in white cotton. I sewed the shoulder seams together before I should have.

Next step, the tiny little strips. There were 18 on one sleeve, 17 on the other.

I tried to figure out a way to make more blind stitches, but do to the size, and the fraying tendency of the fabric, I just took small running stitches. At first I was disappointed, but the more rows I did, the more I decided it was perfect, and added to the effect. Below is the finished right sleeve.

And now the front and one back. As you see, I did take the shoulder seams apart in order to better sew on the strips.

And just a cute pic of Blueberry holding his finished sleeves in excitement...(Lovely background, eh?)

4 hours later, it is finished. My regret is not taking the time to fray check the strips before sewing them on. I love the shredded effect, which got  more shredded in my struggle to turn those loooong sleeves inside out. (It wouldn't have hurt to have made them a wee bit wider for that reason.) I luckily only managed to pull off one strip which is some sort of miracle. I was having visions of having to toss out the whole thing at that point while I tried - as gently as I could - to pull those sleeves through. What a relief when I finally did!) I had put a slit in either sleeve so he could get his paws through to use his hands, which not only looks cool, but helped greatly in the turning-the-sleeves-inside-out drama.

It will have a chain sewn onto the shirt, and also the pants. I *know* I have one around here somewhere, but I have no idea where it is. I really don't think I used it for something else, unless it was Ambrose' bondage pants....I'll just have to get another one. And then it will be perfect! :D

I do intend to try and go in there with a tooth pick or something to maybe add some fray check to it. I'll update later if I did, what I did, and if it worked. Even if I don't, it is technically fine. I'll just handle it with care.

And here he is with his twin, Grape Jelly. I'll do a separate post for his outfit, as I have WIP and the story to tell for that one too. :)

Went to Nashville yesterday, visited the AG store!

Which is about 2 1/2 hours from where we are staying. They have an AG store there at the mall, so we were really excited to get the chance to visit. For some reason we had this hair brained idea that we could stop by there on the way to KY on our move here - yeah right. Like we' re going to even want to stop there on a 4 (and it ended up being a 5) day move? It was a fun thought initially, but I am definitely glad we waited.

We got a pretty early start, fueled up on gas and coffee (32 oz cup for me!) and we were on our way. My Freya (a gift from a friend - thank you so much - you know who you are!) came along with me. She's been rather needy since her arrival. She's wearing a Blythe dress that no one else is needing, and I think it looks cute on her. Blythe clothes are slim picking 'round these parts as sewing for them seems to always end up on the bottom of the stack of priorities. Eventually I will get my Freya named, and dressed in clothing special for her. I'm just not sure what that is at the moment, so she will stay as she is for now.

We got to the mall around 11:45 -ish, just in time for lunch. We brought along deli meat (sun dried tomato roasted turkey is really good) for sandwiches, and once food was downed, off we went.

The Cool Springs Galleria mall is quite large. A 2 story. We came in the mall through Macy's, and once we located one of those mall map thing a ma bops, found that the AG place was in the upper story and all the way on the other side of the mall. Like I said, it was a big mall, so it was quite the walk to get there. I wanted to stop by Hot Topic of course to check out what goodies they might have (I miss the one here, which closed down years ago.) They were having a store wide sale (yay!!) and I looked pretty quickly and ended up heading on to the AG store with the intent to come back later on to make my purchases.

The AG store there is really fun. It's all one level, as opposed to having the Bitty Babies and modern girls on the bottom floor like they had in D.C. (Actually, Tyson's Corner in VA.) I prefer the one floor. There were a good spattering of customers, but it wasn't too terribly crowded. The employees could hover annoyingly at times, but again, not too terribly bad. (I had one employee do the "Oh, I just love your coffin bag!" as she obviously craned her neck to make sure I wasn't stealing. *sigh* I totally understand why she would do that. I made sure she saw the inside of it to see for herself there was nothing underhanded going on. Why do people have to steal things?) I took a few pics of Freya checking out all the models and displays. Here is my favorite. I think she found a friend she wanted to take home with her. Maybe next time.

I ended up getting some fun stuff on my second trip to Hot Topic. (I know I took forever. It's not a big store, but the really low lights makes it hard to see everything, lol.) I got 2 awesome awesome sweaters with skulls on them (one is long and black, the other is a cream and black stripe) 2 bottles of nail polish, and 3 sets of jewelry.

While I was walking along, I saw a child - probably around 7 maybe? - point at me. Totally normal. I don't mind. Recently I had a 3 year old boy point and me and say "Look, a bat!" (Not sure how I resembled a bat, but I was like "aw, he called me a bat!") I never know what I'll hear, but something along that line, or maybe just a gasp. But this child? She pointed at me, and then, here it came. "Mommy, look, an EMO!" Emo??????? Seriously? I have never been called that before. I guess that's her title for black make up and clothes? (It's not completely untrue, but still, I am no emo.) *face palm* Ah well, what do kids know?

Next came the drive to Bowling Green where we got lost trying to re-find the restaurant of choice for dinner. The food was terrible. That's one thing we'll have to re-adjust to. Around here, there are no decent Mexican restaurants. It's not exactly the right demographic for people to really have much appreciation for good Mexican food. It's okay, though. I truly do not enjoy eating out, and since I am here, if I must, just give me some Long John Silvers, and we're good. :D

Some more pics from the AG store:

I love Mary Ellen more than I expected to. I think she might be coming to live with me at one point!

Pants for tinies - Pipos PI, Delf Zuzu, and of course, 5star YoSD...

I intended to spend my weekend working on an outfit for my 5star tony Aiden Dante. I have plans for a suit for him - red blouse, black slacks, maybe a black vest, a suit coat and for sure a tie. I hadn't really gotten out many of my BJDs since moving back to KY, so I pretty soon found myself distracted just a little, hauling all of my anthros out of their container. The ones who did have clothes had cold weather stuff, and in the summer heat (with no a/c at the time - we have since gotten one as of last night, and I am one happy duck) it looked miserable. So, I decided to spend a little bit of time making them something that didn't look like they would melt in.

First, I sketched out some summer dress ideas for Honeysuckle (Baha girl.) Then, I settled on cargo shorts for the boys (Pipos PI Heero - he's not mine, but I sew for him like he is - PI Bao, and Delf Zuzu Wolffy) each in different colors. Hamilton (Heero) would have black, Percy (Bao) would have khaki, and Vlady (Zuzu) would be most unhappily stuck with denim. He's normally my romantic white vampy goth, so sticking him in something normal is cruel and unusual punishment for him. I do sympathize, so I am working on an idea for something cool and in his style, but until then, he has shorts.

I started with Vlady's, went onto Ham's, and then started working on a raglan tee for Vlady. I'm presently not happy with it, but I am pleased with the shorts. I had cut out Percy's, but didn't get to them until Sunday.

On Sunday I made Percy's shorts, and then began working on basic pants for Aiden, and finished them relatively fast. I do have an Etsy commission for 3 pairs of pants for this size, so not only was I making something for Dante to wear, but I was also working on stuff for my store. I am pleased with how everything except the raglan tee have turned out. I'll edit this post when I finish getting pics of everything.

Pictures!

Meet Dante - 5star Aiden (Long story ahead...)

Poor little Dante is a sweet and eager little Demon, ready to get his very first assignment into the human world. In fact, he is so excited that he spends his days - and sometimes his nights when he gets away with is - in the lobby of the Department of Human Assistance. (Basically, they handle those humans who go conjuring demons, selling their souls, etc.) He sits, just waiting until his name is called. His presence is met with a mix of annoyance, anger and pity. Sometimes the receptionists there take some pity on him and provide him with snacks and water, and a blanket for those late nights when he falls asleep on the couch. Sometimes they will run him out. When this happens, Dante will simply bide his time, wait till the coast is clear, and he will sneak back in.

Days come and days go. His name is never called. You see, Hell doesn't exactly want him. He's just....simple and kind hearted. Not attributes a demon summoned t cause trouble in the world of human's possess. Unfortunately, they can't seem to justify shipping him out. Oh, they've thought about. How could they excuse getting rid of the little nuisance?

And then, one day the perfect opportunity fell right into their laps......

Fast forward to the human world for just a moment here.

Meet Ambrose. You see him there - the tall lanky pale fellow with the long white blonde hair in the black pleather. He's hunched over another drink. One he shouldn't be having, just like his last 4. He's angry and fretting. He's furious at someone. Who, it doesn't matter. (Truth be told, I haven't figured out that little detail, so we will just move on.) And being drunk, he's not exactly plotting anything good. The bartender orders him a cab and gently prods him to leave, telling him he has had more than enough.  Ambrose's band plays there often on the weekends, so he is on friendly terms with all the employees there. He knows its true, and doesn't bother putting up any sort of fuss. This isn't his normal thing - he might enjoy a few drinks, but he knows his limits. Normally. But this isn't a normal night for him.

The weather isn't quite normal either. It's been a very humid summer, and the lightening storms have been phenomenal. And on this particular night, a storm was brewing.  (Come on, of course it was! Ambiance, folks, ambiance. :P)

Ambrose lives with his friend Draven at Draven's old creepy Victorian family house. Draven also happened to be out of town, and was due home in 3 days. (Had he been there, I wouldn't be writing this story.)

Ambrose was dropped off at the very edge of the long winding driveway. The cab driver refused to get any closer to the house than he had to. And while he wasn't exactly thrilled to be staggering in the pelting down rain, he just thanked the guy and headed onward to the front door. After struggling to first find the right key, hold on it to it long enough to try inserting into the lock, and then actually getting it in the right way (he was cursing his lack of control at this point) Ambrose was inside.

Surveying the spinning room through blurry eyes for a moment, he got into his plan. Draven's house held a very large library. His family throughout the years had amounted a very vast and odd sort of collection. Things like taxidermy, funeral rites, poisons, torture practices and other oddities made up the majority of it, mixed in with Gothic Victorian novels and other such crime stories. There was a section Ambrose had stumbled onto one day unlike the others. There were 2 books, both ornately bound. They contained some sort of spells - many written in what Ambrose could only guess was latin. Draven told him that his great grandfather had been heavily into Necromancy and other dark arts. He was told firmly to not ever mess with them. Draven, knowing Ambrose would take him seriously never bothered to move them or hide them. Ambrose never intended to mess with them. But....this wasn't a normal night, or a normal situation. (And Ambrose was drunker than a skunk.)

Once in the library he swiftly (not really, he stumbled, stubbed a toe which he would have broke had the alcohol not softened the blow, knocked over a lamp) made his way to the books, and scooped them up. He sat down at the beautiful carved desk, and began to flip through. He was in truth at first disappointed. Perhaps he had a movie moment for himself pictured already in his mind. Flipping through spells to turn people into toads, or some such. The only thing that piqued his interest was finding an incantation to summon a demon to do your will. This, this one might work. He could use some little demon to torment the object of his rage. Well, maybe *torment* was a strong word. More like annoy, bother, disrupt. The more he thought about the less he really wanted to cause this person that many problems.

But still. They had to pay. Right?

Ambrose concluded that yes, they deserved it. He dug a candle out of the desk drawer. (Draven always used candles wherever he was at. He preferred them to lamps, often times.) He lit it, cleared his throat and began to read.

To be continued so that this post isn't horribly long.....

Trying Kool Aid as hair Dye and some new make up

Since moving back to KY, I am pleased to once again find that they offer much more colors of lip stick that I might use instead of the basic colors that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. They have Hard Candy at Wal-mart that does offer a black. The reviews of it are plain awful, and in pics it look greasy with poor, poor coverage. It would be salvaged with some black pigment, but I find that after awhile it can get a wee bit uncomfortable, although it looks fantastic. I do plan on trying out the purple, purplish black, green and blue one of these days.

At the General Dollar they have a different line up of make up, but still a lot of L.A. Colors. Which is fine, as some of their products are good, some none so much. They had a sale, so I went ahead and grabbed one of the Matte lipsticks (Broadway Colors line), and 2  L.A. Colors eye shadows. (I desperately need a new black, as mine busted into pieces on the move, but its still usable.) I bought a cauldron color that has a bit of a sparkle to it without being sparkly, and a wine color that has black undertones. I like both quite a bit. The lipstick is a brownish, burgundy, blackish. Great color, matte finish, and one I can actually put my lip liner on top of to finish out the edges. I plan to buy the black of this brand, since it is also a matte. One of my blacks I use only as an emergency fix while out and about, as it tends towards greasy and required the pigment over. My other (Portland Black Lipstick Company) is seriously awesome, so another black isn't really important, but one I plan to try. I will also be buying the purple, dark blue and possibly the lighter blue. That one might be too light, but it might be fun to play with. Here's a couple of pics. They made them look lighter than they are. I'm struggling to get good pics up here in the attic.

Like the title says, I am trying out kool aid to dye my hair for the first time. Since my untimely reaction to hair dye back last fall, my hair has just been growing out in its natural color. I miss my hair being all black. I do plan to eventually go the natural route (henna/indigo) an idea my friend in another state and I talked about doing some time last year. Neither of us have thus far. So, I decided to try using kool aid. I went with the grape, as I would love purple hair. And adding purple to what's still black might look cool, right?

I didn't have enough to cover all the natural colored hair, but I got the top and some of the under stuff. If it actually does as advertised, I'll be happy. If not, well, no real harm done. The cloying grape scent will eventually leave my nose. :P Just 3 hours to go, and we'll see if it works!

The relocation post....

And my staggering ability to create eye catching titles for my blog posts continues!

As the title says, I have happily relocated from Ogden UT back to KY. It came up sudden like, and I honestly still can't believe I am back. One day it came up, followed by a week or so of packing frenzy. We were set to leave on Tuesday, and as plans go, we did better than expected. We did leave on Tuesday, but around 3:30 in the afternoon. Not a great start for a 4 day cross country move, but at least we were actually out the door at all.

The trip was as bad or good as to be expected. We didn't hit any bad weather. Seems we skirted around anything that was a potential. We made bad time the first 2 days, practically flew the third day, made fantastic time on the 4th day only to lose all that great time getting sort of lost in St. Louis, making us stay in Mount Vernon at a not so fantastic hotel. It was all just fine though, and having that extra night in a hotel was nice for being so tired. When we got into town, we found that the car had a dead battery. Cue the "Oh no, we can't get the car off the car dolly until Monday, the truck is due to be turned in on Sunday." The guys at the U Haul place were really nice and did not charge us for the extra day we needed on Monday. Turns out the car battery was dead.

So, Monday came and went after a relay race of hauling everything off the truck, only to have the people at the U Haul place accuse us of hitting their silver Mercedes. (You should see where they parked the damn thing to begin with. Just asking for trouble, if you ask me.) It was a weird feeling to have the wife of the guy who works there come running out to take pics of the side of our car where we scraped the railing in New Mexico. Apparently she had felt it was "so obvious" that she didn't bother to even check out the truck. They claimed we definitely hit them going  out that exit (we went out the other one) and were somehow oblivious to the fact that there was:

 A) no silver paint on our car. Looking at the damage on their car - missing paint patches, etc. there is NO way a vehicle could cause that much damage and not be wearing the paint to prove it.

B) She measured our car and the silver car with a measuring stick claiming that the damage was the same height AFTER our car was off the tow dolly. (It would have been 6 inches or so higher if the car was on the tow dolly, so those measurements aren't accurate.)

C) Our car had brown dirt all over from NM, and thin long scrapes, most of which wiped off with a little water. Now how does that come from the back end of another car that is missing paint? I don't think so. My regret was that we failed to wipe off our car before taking the truck back. They would have had zero to go on if we had.

You cannot not hear or feel hitting a car. I know people lie and you can't believe anyone, but there is no way we would hit a car and be oblivious to it. They also admitted they did not see us do it. It is really a bad location for a U Haul place. It's a very tiny place with people coming in and out with tow dollies, trailers, etc, so honestly, anyone could have done it. For all they know it was someone after hours using it as a turn around, and they only found it on Monday morning. I suppose we were the final customers on Saturday, so us it had to be. I understand they are desperate to find someone so they can collect the insurance to cover the damage, but I don't exactly appreciate this.

I've been here now over a week. Time has flown, and I am still in the "wow, just think where I was at this time 2 weeks ago!" We just got the internet turned on here, so I am back in business as far as sewing goes. The  next few posts will be back to my normal sewing/commission posts. I had to get this one out of the way though first.

Limhwa Limho Mono BJD MSD Commission Project

I saw a WTC thread on DoA and jumped on it pretty much immediately. While I do not have this doll myself, I have sewn for him before, so I was really excited to see this. It also happened to be one of my favorite styles. A medieval/fantasy outfit. I guess it is off a character - Game of Thrones maybe? I looked, but I can't remember. (I'm one of the apparently few people who doesn't watch the show.)

I've gotten most of the pattern drafting done. The pants are done. I just perfected the tunic, and all that leaves me if to iron out the couple of nagging details on the robe, and I can get it finished up for her.

I am sewing her tunic today. I got some very fine high quality cream linen, as per her request. It's beautiful, and I know exactly why I bought it. It was just perfect in weave and color for the tunic. It's also one of those fabrics that when it comes time to working with it you'r like "what was I thinking?" Lol. It's okay though. It'll be worth the extra pain in sewing with it. I am fray checking most of the pieces as linen is suspect for very bad fraying normally, and this lovely fabric is pretty mean.

Here's the design:

(Pardon the bent paper. The sketches and the measurements are on the same page and have been through a lot.)

And here is a picture of the fabric:

I can't wait to see how it turns out. I love the test run, but that's out of cheap white muslin! I wil hopefully have it finished up today.

American Girl Cargo shorts for boys in the works!

I have so much I want to put on this blog, finished projects, started projects. If I ever get to it, I'll be happy! Yesterday I finally got to working on some cargo shorts for American Girl doll boys. (I love making boys clothing.) I got this pattern drafted, and got the test run sewn before it was time for dinner. I have to make a few minor adjustments, but over all, I am quite happy with the fit.

They will close in the front with snaps. I am not partial whatsoever for elastic in the waistbands. They will also have working pockets with flaps in the front and the back. I'm making Braden's shorts out of this khaki twill.

When I get these ready for Etsy, I'll be able to give custom color options. I have several different colors of twill, though I believe I am out of black at the present. Cut out and ready to go!

Braden is really excited to have something to wear made specially for him. I plan to make a tank top and a sleeveless button up shirt to wear over it. The tank top pattern has been started. Button up shirt still in the mental oven. (Things seem to get hung up there a lot lately.)

Glitter Eyes for Cheese Mice....

My difficulties in finding appropriate eyes for my Pipos Cheese Mice has been going on for years. Since they cannot have eyes with stems, finding anything that suits me is really, really hard. Pipos does put random eyes with their dolls, and its a crap shoot if I actually like them or not. I seem to land with mostly pink spectrum eyes, and it doesn't really work with most of my dolls. Harold (my beige basic mouse, and first of them crew) came with these gorgeous cobalt blue eyes. I loved them. Unfortunately, I lost his eyes when I was cleaning out a bunch of my stuff. They didn't end up in the keep or sell pile, and ended up in the trash. I deeply regret that.  I would have never thrown them away on purpose. This was probably 3 or 4 years ago, and trying to find anything that I like for him or any of them for that matter has been mostly a bomb out.

A couple of years ago I bought 3 or 4 pairs of eyes from someone who was selling them on the DoA MP. One pair was a glass stem less pupil-less gold glitter. I love them. They have gone from mouse to mouse to see who gets to keep them while the others fear they will never have anything actually decent for them.

A few weeks ago, my sweet friend sent me some blank 18mm DIY eyes, which was so nice and totally unexpected! I got 3 pair, which was perfect at the time, as I only had 4 mice, and only 3 of them still needed eyes. (I got another mouse shortly thereafter.) I love glitter eyes, and since you can use nail polish as well as paint, stickers, etc, I decided to use some nail polish.

I got some blue glitter polish for this project. I thought it would be the perfect color for Harold. I decided to go with white glitter for the second pair, and silver for the final pair. I compensated the polish with some of my micro glitter. Once I had them how I wanted them, I pushed the clear dome - or at least I attempted to. Now, this could totally be on the operator here, but I could only get the silver ones to actually go down and snap into place. The white ones I got partially put into place, but the blue ones? I have had to keep putting one back into the eye as it has randomly come off. Seems like Harold's bad luck continues. The color I went with didn't end up being as dark as I had thought it would be. It's like every time I try and fix my original mistake of losing Harold's eyes it's like "foiled again!"

As it turned out, Harold isn't even wearing them right now. I had planned also on the white glitter eyes being for my white cheese mouse Coconut Cream, the silver glitter being for Blueberry, and Grape Jelly keeping the gold glass. Right now, Harold is wearing the white, Coconut Cream the silver, Grape Jelly the blue, and Blueberry the gold. I don't have pics of them yet in their new eyes, but this is how the eyes look. I do really like them. :)

Now I just have to figure out what to do for my peach mouse, Peach Cobbler....

MSD Boy Lolita Project

This is a project for one of my own dolls. I had this crazy idea to put girl's Lolita clothes on a boy (I don't like any of the girl BJDs) but I love, love Lolita clothes. So, I bought myself a RS WS Song to dress accordingly. (I am definitely not the only BJD owner to do this. :P) I picked out 2 pieces of fabric for him - one is a turquoise heart print, and the other is a pale minty/sage print. My first idea of an outfit for him is a much simpler dress than some I would love to make. I have the basic dress mostly done, but I still need to add some ribbon and fabric bows to it. Here's how it is looking so far.

If you look closely, you will see his missing finger. Talk about a moment of pure horror. I have NO idea how this managed to happened. I do know that RS has infamously thin resin (thus their cheap price) so it had to be a weakness in the resin. I am very careful with my dolls. I don't slam them around, I don't let them crash, so to have a broken finger is pretty upsetting. It must have snapped off when I was putting the dress either on him or off of him. I couldn't find the broken off finger at first. :/ I finally found it the third time of looking for it. It was under my desk. I can fix this when I get some epoxy. But still. He's broken and I am really unhappy. Poor doll.

I still need to get his wig. I can't quite decide what I want to do. I am hoping that the pink mohair wig I found on DoA is still available. I think it really fits him. I love mohair wigs. I have never owned one myself, but I really love the look of them. Roosevelt has some cute kitty white Mary Jane shoes I got for him, and also another pair he ended up with by default. The measurements of the shoes were incorrect in the listing, so they do not work for my Doll Leaves Royal, but thankfully they work fr Rosie. (This caused the expected tensions between the 2 dolls. It's not Rosie's fault, but what does D'arcy care?) I also need to either make or find him some stockings. My pair of blue and white stripe stockings that are a little too dark for this turquoise dress, but they will have to do for now.

I'm all set to make his bloomers and petticoat. I was going to start on them last night, but after his finger broke, it kind of killed the sewing mood for me....

Falling back in love with Sewing for Blythe (hopefully)

I sort of fell out of love for sewing for Blythe the last several months. Not quite sure if I could say why, but unfortunately, I did. I remember back in 2012, when I was first introduced to Blythe by a sweet friend I had met through commission sewing on DoA. (Sadly, I have no idea where she went to. I'v tried to find her, but she has pretty much disappeared online the last couple of years.) She had recently gotten into Blythes and wanted me to meet the doll so to speak, thinking I would really enjoy sewing for her. She sent me a doll to try out and see if I liked her. First, I had planned to buy it from her. Then she decided we should trade her for sewing, and finally she just gave her to me! It was very sweet of her, and I had a lot of fun with my Blythe. The poor doll was in some need of a re-do, and so I did an admittedly bad re-root on her. (It was meant to be temporary.) And also I repainted her face. Thus Lenore was born. I had so much fun sewing. I had that basic free skipper pattern (you know the one) and branched out from there making my own patterns, and quickly. I was on fire with inspiration! Things took a turn some months later, and I ended up giving the doll back to her.

Fast forward to 2014. I decided to try and re-connect with Blythe. I took a chance and bought this beautiful blue haired girl. At this point I didn't really grasp fakes and factories. Of course, my doll was a factory. Not that I care. I love Lotus and wouldn't change her for anything. I went through several real Blythes which I eventually sold until I scored my Merry Skier. (Her names Pancake, and she is not going anywhere.) I tried to get back into sewing for Blythe, joining several swaps, donating to BlytheCon, and putting a few things in my Etsy shop. I just wasn't feeling that same excitement I had felt in 2012. Not sure what it was.

Somehow we managed to find some of my old pictures the other night from 2012. It's kind of weird what you can find my just typing in random things. It was neat seeing my old stuff. Seeing it made me remember what fun it used to be. It made me want to recreate some of my old patterns that had gotten tossed. I would love to fall back in love with Blythe and sewing for her like I used to!

So last night I decided ti just go for it. I drafted out 2 patterns which will hopefully be either exactly like or pretty much like my old designs. I cut out one dress, and will work on the other one when this one is finished. Here is the original dress:

This dress I had named "A Victorian Dream in Cream." I definitely have made some changes that I hadn't quite intended, but I am just going with it. Here is my WIP version of it:

And that is a terrible picture. Geez, my nighttime shots are awesome. Any ways, I have omitted the lace under the sleeve puff which makes the sleeve appear more different than it actually is. The bodice looks like it could be a little loose, so I might need to take in the side seams just a bit, but I am going to wait to see how much space the skirt takes up. I am thinking about making what was the lace underskirt of the original in a cream gauze, and also making it a separate piece, more like a petticoat. The skirt I can tell is already going to be fuller than the original. I might do something different with the collar, but I am a huge fan of the high neck.

This is as far as I am going to get tonight. (I am definitely sewed out for this fine Wednesday.) I am actually feeling that old spark again! I am so excited to finish this dress, which I can hopefully get to tomorrow night. I really don't have the perfect doll to wear this dress, so maybe some Blythe shopping? (I desperately need  Nicky Lad.)

The American Girl Lolita Project

I started sewing AG Lolita clothing about 2 years ago, lost interest in the dolls, and pretty much phased out sewing for them. (I kept one doll as I am still working on some historically more accurate Marie-Grace dresses for someone I met on the AGPT forum a couple of years back by responding to her WTC for this project. She has since become very dear penpal.)

Before Christmas I got a message on Etsy from a lady who was looking to have some dresses made for her AG doll. She had recently fallen in love with Loli fashion herself. As someone who loves Loli fashion for dolls, meeting a like minded dolly owner is always a treat! After discussing some ideas with her, she settled on going with the pattern I had already made, only instead of the pale butterfly print I had sewn it in before, she was looking for a pale icy yellow solid. You'd think that would be a simple thing to find, but alas, butter yellow is what is so easily found right now. Colors really trend through the years. I was finally able to find ONE option, which thankfully turned out to be perfect.

Here is the dress. I couldn't be happier with it.

My buyer wanted to add some pigtail bows to match it. She is also wanting a large single pony tail bow. I had meant to have this finished by the time she got back from vacation, but I had forgotten to settle on the exact size with her before she left. I want her input before I sew the actual bow for her.

The second dress is pretty much her brain child. It was fun seeing the dress come together. We started with an example of a human dress, and it went from there! She wanted it in lavender with a lavender print. I LOVE this fabric combination. This dress will also have the pig tails bows, and the still unmade single bow.

I am presently working on the third dress, the pink. It'll be made out of a pink printed with little white vines with hearts mixed with a pale pink solid. The bodice will be pretty simple, but the skirt is more of a challenge. I'm really wanting it to have several ruffles, so I'm working on some concepts to see what is possible and what is not. Hopefully I can post some WIP pics of this design soon!
